****The Organization****

The Humanitarian Forum (THF) is a network of key humanitarian and charitable organizations from each of: Muslim donor and recipient countries; the West; and the multilateral system. Recognizing the challenges facing local organizations in many countries, we want toimprove the lives of those affected by disasters through sound and principled humanitarian action. We also want to foster partnerships and a conducive, unbiased and safe environment to improve the work of these organizations.

The strategic direction of the Humanitarian Forum is decided by the Trustee Board. A Secretariat in Central London organizes activities.

****Job Description:****

Under the direct supervision of the President and the overall supervision of the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for providing leadership and management with the following scope of work:

  1. Develop concept notes / proposals for institutional funding.
  2. Represent the Forum in relevant meetings and seminars with UK government, UN agencies and other overseas meetings as requested by the President
  3. Monitor and keep track of agreed project operational expenditures and ensure that expenditures are in line with budget limitations; monitor other project expenses versus the budgets and assist in preparing budget revisions and financial reports, in coordination with the Finance Director.
  4. Review agreed project outputs and timelines versus the objectives as set forth in the project documents; set up and maintain a proper implementation strategy and work plan to ensure timely implementation and achievement of project outputs.
  5. Coordinate project activities and liaise with donors, project partners, other agencies, local government and different stakeholders.
  6. Leading on strategic planning, developing opportunities for THF and growing as well as consolidating relationships with innovative partners worldwide.
  7. Follow up on the preparation for the World Humanitarian Summit consultations and work with like minded organisations to promote THF's messages in changing the humanitarian system.
  8. Managing and planning capacity building and development projects in UK and partner countries as per donor contracts.
  9. Support development and implementation of communication strategies for the organisation and its specific projects’.
  10. Assist in the development to strategic plan and budget.
  11. Review, access and analyze development trends in the donor market of targeted regions and execute relevant fundraising.
  12. Supervise and direct project staff and initiate recruitment of additional staff members where appropriate.
  13. Conduct field visits where project activities are active and assess the progress and achievements of the projects; be responsible for and coordinate affairs of the national chapters of the Forum according to the project requirements; organize and hold meetings in accordance with the Forum's engagement strategy.
  14. The Director will be responsible for all Admin, Financial, Programmatic, Funding, Trustees etc. coordination.
  15. Coordinate and attend Trustees meeting as and when directed by the Board.
  16. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the President and the Communications Director.
  17. Ensuring THF adheres to and complies with UK charity law, company law and other relevant legislation or regulations, and that THF acts in accordance with its constitutional obligations, as defined by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
  18. Ensuring that Board members receive appropriate and timely reports including progress against business plan, reviewing THF's strategic direction.

****Person Specifications****:

You should have a relevant academic qualification and at least 5-7 years of experience with charities preferably in the international development sector. Experience of leading a team, excellent interpersonal and networking skills and a strong knowledge of development programs, organizations and networks relating to sustainable development policy and practice are essential. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with a range of partners and should have a strong desire to influence practice to bring about positive change.

****Core Experiences****:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline preferably international development and/or in a humanitarian field.
  • Preferably 5-7 years of experience with implementing projects for small charities in the humanitarian sector.
  • A proven track record of writing projects from a range of public, government and private sources
  • Experience in designing and directing the delivery of international projects and programs
  • Experience in financial planning, budget setting and management and accountability
  • Familiarity with world of international donors/grant makers
  • Understanding of international development, including the humanitarian and development challenges facing vulnerable communities in conflict prone areas
  • An excellent command of English (written and spoken), other languages including Arabic would be an advantage
  • excellent organisational skills and ability to work under-pressure.
  • good communication and writing skills more specifically proven ability to synthesize complex ideas in more accessible written and verbal forms.
  • good IT skills
  • work well with people at all levels

Summary terms and conditions

Working hours:Full time staff is expected to work a standard 40 hour week

Leave entitlement:20 working days per year plus UK statutory holidays

1 year fixed contract:Extendable, based on funding.

Probationary period: There will be an initial 3 month probationary period.

Notice period: During the probationary period, notice will be 1 month on either side. On successful completion of the probationary period, notice will still be for 2 month on either side.

Work Permit: Applicants should be eligible to live and work in the UK
